Job Description

The designer designs clothing ranges and accessories. They may have control over a certain label or brand and will sketch multiple initial design ideas for items that they think will appeal to the people who might buy them! They will also use data collected from samples to ensure that the sizing's are correct any. The sketches will be discussed amongst other designers, passed up to the Design Manager where the design is refined and specifics are finalised, such as materials to be used, stitching, colour and range.

Entry Requirements

Designers will have 1 or 2 years' experience as a Junior Design Assistant or Graphic Designer. So you many have a HND, BTEC or Degree in Fashion, Textiles Graphic Design or closely related subjects. To get into these courses you may need GCSE's in Art, Graphics, Product Design or textiles. Also consider keeping your Portfolio up-to-date - ask the company or team you work for if it is okay to reference the designs and work you do with them to show the experience you are building in your career.

Required Skills

The ability to create lots of ideas and translate them into sketches and designs. Good communication skills, strong IT skills for working on CAD software and other design applications.

Starting Salary

£16,000 to £18,000
