Job Description

The Project Manager will oversee the manufacturing process and make sure that the production lines are running smoothly. They will make sure that deadlines are met within budget and to the standard required.

Entry Requirements

You can get into this work in a number of ways, including:

  • working you way up from a junior production role
  • management training, which you may get into with a foundation degree, HND or degree in manufacturing
  • an apprenticeship

It may be helpful to be familiar with national and international quality standards for your industry, according to the British Standards Institution (BSI).

Knowledge of quality management methods might also be useful.

Career Path and Progression

With experience, you could move into overall factory management or strategic planning roles at regional or national level.

If you work for a large national or international company, you may have the opportunity to work overseas.

National Government Policy states that all students should have achieved at least a Grade 4 or C Grade in English & Maths at GCSE.  Achieving this minimum grade in these subjects will increase the opportunities open to you, support your future career development and prospects.

Students who do not meet this standard will be supported to continue to study English and Maths through full-time education or an Apprenticeship.

Starting Salary

£22,000 to £30,000
