Job Description

Warehouse workers take delivery of goods for storage and retrieve and load orders for dispatch.

Entry Requirements

You may not need any qualifications, but some employers may ask for GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent. You'll find it most useful to have English, maths and IT.

You may need to do forklift training through The Accrediting Bodies Association (ABA) (Workplace Transport). Your employer may arrange this for you.

You could start by temping or doing seasonal work.

You could also get into this job through an apprenticeship in warehousing and storage.

Career Path and Progression

With experience you could become a team leader, shift supervisor or warehouse manager.

You could also move into quality control, freight planning or distribution.

National Government Policy states that all students should have achieved at least a Grade 4 or C Grade in English & Maths at GCSE.  Achieving this minimum grade in these subjects will increase the opportunities open to you, support your future career development and prospects.

Students who do not meet this standard will be supported to continue to study English and Maths through full-time education or an Apprenticeship.
