Inspired Youth is a social enterprise that aims to bring together local employers with local young people. We do this through exciting projects that encourage real conversations about skills and careers.
Founded as a project in 2010 with the sole purpose of engaging local businesses with local young people, in 2013, Inspired Youth was incorporated as a social enterprise, and continues to grow into a supporting network of local business owners and managers working together to mentor and provide support to young people.
The continuous development of Inspired Youth has been entirely funded by the organisations which are involved within it; local employers and other organisations committed to developing the young people of our region and providing opportunity where they can.
The project is predominantly run by a core team at Inspired Youth, supported by hundreds of volunteers including local employers, training providers and teachers. Activities are run across Norfolk and Suffolk involving thousands of students from junior school through to graduate level. The activities are supported by local businesses ranging from micro and start up businesses through to major national companies with a local presence. Since the project was founded in 2010 it has worked with over 10,000 young people across the region.
The activities Inspired Youth delivers are wide ranging, from in-school enterprise days through to major sector careers events involving multiple schools. Community engagement is at the core of Inspired Youth’s vision, and the activities it delivers specifically focus on ensuring high value for the participating stakeholders.
The breadth of activities covers a broad range of ages from infant school through to graduate level, and covers a wide spectrum of subjects, careers and abilities.
Activities Are Grouped Into 4 Key Areas, These Being;
- Projects that promote engagement with those in education
- Projects promoting regional and sector careers
- Projects promoting real life experience in the work place
- Mentoring programmes to inspire young people and to raise aspirations
Inspired Youth works with a broad age range of young people, with a large proportion of projects delivered to students in schools. However, many of Inspired Youth’s projects are run and organised by young people, and this is done through our SPARKS! events team.
Sparks - Inspired YouthThe SPARKS! teams are small project teams that work together over several weeks to plan and organise some of the bigger Inspired Youth events. This approach is a win:win for everyone, as it gives us a chance to make sure the events are appealing to young people through having young people involved in organising them, and it gives those on a SPARKS! team a great experience of being involved in a project.
In addition to SPARKS! teams, from time to time Inspired Youth offers more longer term work placements to support young people studying event management as part of their studies. These opportunities offer young people a chance to get hands on experience to support their coursework, but also are a great opportunity to meet future employers through being involved in different events.
