The Work Placement Week for Sixth Form students is held in October every year at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We invite every school in Norfolk to select 2 students who are considering a career in medicine. It’s a chance for all students from different backgrounds to participate in a work experience and to mingle with their peers.
Schools which we have invited are:
Attleborough Academy Norfolk
Dereham Sith Form College
Diss High School
Hellesdon High School
Norwich High School for Girls GDST
Notre Dame High School
Reepham High School & College
Sheringham High School
Smithdon Sixth Form
Thetford Grammer School
Wymondham College Sixth Form
Wymondham High Academy Trust
The group spend a week collectively at the hospital and receive talks from a number of Consultants and observe different aspects of a career in medicine, such as surgery, anaesthetics, pathology, etc. We are the only hospital in the region which offers this programme. Last year we processed over 200 applications.
The work placement week is an exciting opportunity for students considering a career in Medicine to gain first-hand experience of a busy hospital environment.
A typical day on the programme would consist of a talk by a Consultant, an opportunity to visit an operating theatre, ward or outpatient clinic to observe different Medical Specialties.
