About

1st October 2021
Role overview: Able2B is a unique service providing functional improvement opportunities for people with disabilities. Set up by Rachael Hutchinson (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon) and Jon Thaxton (former British and European Boxing Champion), it was designed to offer kids and adults with both physical and learning disabilities to improve their day-to-day function. Able2B is unique in its method of delivery and therefore this is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in the fitness sector, working in social care, the therapy sector and within the community. As an assistant, the post-holder will work alongside both Rachael and Jon, as well as a physiotherapist to learn about the benefits of adapted exercise to empower individuals to ‘Discover their Ability’. The post holder will learn how to be a physiotherapy assistant and the skills required to be a good personal trainer, by helping to deliver exercise and physiotherapy to clients. As skills improve this will progress towards overseeing clients through their session independently, under the guidance of our team. Assessing outcomes is an essential part of our work and the post holder will be shown how to use digital equipment and client interviews/questionnaires to record this. They will receive training on how to use our gym equipment safely and correctly, assess the needs of each client, communication skills, how disability impacts an individual and society, computer and digital monitoring skills and how to provide a Covid safe environment for clients.
