This role involves working within a primary school classroom at The Willows Primary School (Ipswich), a 2 form entry primary school, where you will work under the direct instruction of the class teacher in order to support the learning activities in the classroom. This will mean working with individual pupils or groups of pupils, as well as supporting the teacher in their role of delivering high quality learning experiences. Your main responsibilities will include providing general support to the class teacher in the organisation and management of pupils and the classroom. You will also need to assist the teacher in creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment as well as supporting with the behaviour management of the children. Part of the role will also include supervising children whilst they are on their morning playtime and lunch time break. This will involve ensuring that the children play in a safe way and behave well, keeping to the school rules. When a child is hurt ensuring that they are directed to and receive the support of a member of staff who is first aid trained. Further Information About the Role: Offering further support to the children, you will assist with their general pastoral care, including helping children who are unwell, distressed or unsettled, encouraging and modelling positive behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy. You may need to support other adults with the personal and physical needs of pupils such as feeding, toileting and assisting with mobility. You will promote independence and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour. Working with other support staff you will prepare the classroom with basic resources and equipment as directed by the teacher and provide general clerical support e.g. photocopying, laminating, filing, display creation etc as required. You will also provide lunchtime support, which may include cleaning tables and sweeping floors indoors as well as supporting play outside. As part of your responsibilities you will be expected to attend relevant meetings and participate in training opportunities and professional development as required. You will adhere to school health and safety policy including risk assessment and safety systems as well as adhering to school policy on equality and diversity. You will undertake and complete all safeguarding training as required, following school procedures to report concerns and asking questions if you do not understand your responsibilities. As a role model for young children you will always be seen to act in the child’s best interests, avoiding any conduct which would lead any reasonable person to question your motivations and intentions and taking responsibility for your own actions and behaviour.
