Store Associates assist Store Managers in the running of Barnardo’s Retail stores, including supervising the shop in their absence. No formal qualification is required for this role. Key tasks and responsibilities include:
Sales: delivering profit targets by maximising sales and minimising costs; implementing any store promotion or local/national fundraising promotion as advised by management; ensuring high standards of customer service at all times.
Store appearance: maintaining a high standard of shop appearance, housekeeping and cleanliness in all areas of the store, including sales floor and stockroom; ensuring the sales floor layout is in line with store guidelines.
Stock and stockroom management: encouraging stock donations and Gift Aid sign ups, processing Gift Aid donations in line with procedures; pricing and processing of stock in line with organisational guidelines; ensuring that adequate stock is available on the shop floor at all times and rotated in line with agreed time limits; ensuring stock is available in store at all times; arranging van collections to provide enough stock to support shop turnover.
Staff management: ensuring tasks are properly delegated to staff/volunteers in line with their training and abilities; organising a rota to ensure the Store runs effectively; creating an organised and pleasant working environment for staff and volunteers; actively recruiting volunteers to the store, providing relevant training and ensuring all staff and volunteers comply with Barnardo's policies, procedures and specific Retail protocols.
Administration and Security: completing all relevant administration on time; ensuring all till procedures are adhered to and that cash is kept secure, notifying management in the event of a break in, suspected theft or security incident.
Health and Safety: providing a safe environment that protects all, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety policies.
