Main description

White Enamel has two surgeries, and two dentists. We are family practice, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, located car park, staff-room the practice has easy access to public transport. There is an opportunity for a Dental Nurse apprentice to join the team.

We offer a range of services, from implantology, orthodontics and cosmetic work. It is a great opportunity for the successful candidate to expand from the normal day to day NHS treatments and work with a range of dental care professionals, offering a range of treatments. We offer training where needed and could be an ideal opportunity to further your Dental Nursing experience and qualifications.

We are looking for a friendly and caring Apprentice Dental Nurse/ Receptionist to join our busy and ever evolving practice.

Job Purpose:

To give chair-side support and to ensure a clean and sterile working environment
To also work at reception when necessary

Roles and Responsibilities:

Apprentice Nurse:

Ensuring clinical areas and instruments are clean and sterile in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and in line with the practices infection control policy
Ensure all equipment and machinery is kept in good working order and used within the manufacturer’s guidelines
Provide chairside assistance while maintaining a fully stocked surgery, ensuring all necessary materials and equipment is available
Handle all substances in accordance with health and safety guidelines
Accurately complete patient clinical records, treatment plans and lab dockets as instructed
Be familiar and comply with all health and safety rules and guidance, including PPE, COSHH, mercury handling, infection control, waste disposal etc
Develop radiographs
Ensure adequate stocks and complete a list of stock needed monthly to be passed on to the practice manager
Ensure paper and digital records are maintained and secured properly
Communicate effectively with reception to ensure smooth running of the practice
Attend training days including medical emergencies and CPR training
Undergo training required to develop abilities
Work at the other practice (Prime Dental) if required to cover staff
Other duties as required to ensure the smooth running of the practice; this may include reception duties
You will also need to carry out reception duties as detailed below:

Answer the telephone in the prescribed manner
Welcome all patients arriving at the practice
Ensure that the appointment system is efficient and accurate
Collect and record patient payments
Other duties as required to ensure the smooth running of the practice

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade C(4) or above in Maths and English is essential.
Preferred applicant will have work experience with over the phone customer service or reception.

Skills required

The ideal candidate would need to be organised and adaptable as it is an ever-changing job role and responsibilities may vary to ensure the smooth running of the practice. The ideal candidate would also need to be an effective communicator.

Training to be Provided

Level 3 Dental Nurse Apprenticeship

Things to consider

In this job role you will work closely with patients, other practice staff, dentists and other dental care professionals. The successful candidate will need to provide evidence of the following vaccinations: • Hepatitis B (HBV) • Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) • BCG • Tetanus, polio and diphtheria If successful we would also require the following: • Two references • Evidence of right to work in the UK (passport, driving licence or birth certificate) A disclosure and barring check would also need to take place and the certificate provided. Failure to provide any of the above documentation/evidence may affect your application and/or job offer.

Future Prospects

Additional skills a dental nurse could develop during their career include: -Further skills in oral health education and oral health promotion. -Assisting in the treatment of patients who are under conscious sedation*. -Further skills in assisting in the treatment of patients with special needs*. -Intra-oral photography. -Shade taking. -Place rubber dam. -Measuring and recording plaque indices. -Pouring , casting and trimming study models*. -Removing sutures after the wound has been checked by a dentist. -Applying fluoride varnish as part of a programme which is overseen by a consultant in dental public health or a registered specialist in dental public health. -Constructing occlusal registration rims and special trays. -Repairing the acrylic component of removable appliances.
