Employer Description

NHS General Practice.
We are a dispensing medical practice. The doctors provide full General Medical Services to patients on their practice list, including visitors who are temporarily in the area. We dispense medication to approximately half of our patients.

There is an opportunity for two apprentices to join the team.

Main description

An apprentice is required to work within the Dispensary of a busy general practice surgery. Duties will include:

Dealing on a face-to-face basis with patients, carers and medical professionals
Printing prescriptions
Directing medication queries to clinicians
Preparing and packaging medications
Receiving telephone queries and directing them as appropriate
Ordering and receiving stock
The apprentice will develop an understanding of medicines management and associated regulations.

Entry requirements

Good general standard of Maths and English at, or above, GCSE C grade, or equivalent.

Skills required

We require a polite individual with a professional telephone manner as well as excellent communication, interpersonal, team working and organisational skills. Time management is also a key attribute for this role. A high level of attention to detail and professionalism is essential.

A good basic knowledge of Microsoft word and excel as well as email is also beneficial.

Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship

Things to consider

This is a fast-paced environment dealing with the general public and requiring the upmost regard for patient confidentiality and accuracy. It is 40 hours per week and duties will cover the entire period from 8.00am until 7.00pm. These hours will be covered by a flexible shift system from Monday to Friday. Each member of staff will have set hours agreed to work the various shifts. This working pattern is subject to change based on NHS contractual obligations and in the future the working period may be extended to include evenings and weekends. Please note, this vacancy may close early if sufficient applications are received.

This is a vacancy with a view to a permanent position  for the successful applicant should they show sufficient potential during the duration of the apprenticeship.
