Join our Apprenticeship programme where you will study for a fully funded degree alongside working for Suffolk County Council as an Apprentice Occupational Therapist.

Over the 2-year programme you will gain core skills and knowledge by working in Adult Social Care alongside a programme of study at the University of Essex, Colchester Campus.

Entry requirements

You must, as set out by the University of Essex, have: -

  • Completed a relevant foundation health degree or equivalent level 5 degree in the last 5 years which meets all the APEL requirements set out by the University of Essex (including completion of 75hrs of taster days and a 2-week placement) to enable you to start on programme in October 2024.
  • This could include the University of Essex OT (Occupational Therapy) Bridging Module.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK for the duration of the apprenticeship programme
  • Have at least 12 months direct experience of working with adults with care and support needs
  • Have GCSE Mathematics and English or English Language at grade C/4 or above, or an approved equivalent such as level 2 functional skills.

Training to be provided

The apprenticeship programme includes:

  • Fully funded level 6 Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship
  • Mixture of work based and academic learning
  • Protected time away from work to attend university and to study
  • A workplace mentor/ supervisor coaching and support provided

Completing your apprenticeship does not guarantee a full-time permanent position. However, you will be guaranteed an interview for the role of a Newly Qualified Occupational Therapist should there be a vacancy available .

Travel and workplace requirements

This role is mainly based in the community; however, you may also have the opportunity to work from home occasionally and you will have an office base. Please speak with the contact detailed below if you wish to discuss how that might impact your working arrangements. 

This role requires you to regularly travel to and from University of Essex, Colchester Campus.

You will also be required to undertake 3 full time practice placements (37hrs per week) in partner health and social care organisations within Suffolk (one 6-week, one 8-week, one 10-week placements over the duration of the programme).
