Main description
Champion has an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Plumbing & Heating Engineer to join their friendly and competent team of qualified and reliable engineers.
What you will do in your working day
With close mentoring support the apprentice will gain experience in the following tasks working alongside a qualified team:
- Gas oil and electric boiler instals
- Complete Bathroom refurbishments
- Full central heating replacements
- New building and development Plumbing & Heating
- Annual Maintenance checks
- Commercial Plumbing & Heatings works such as School Plant Room, Hospitals and Toilet blocks in buildings / offices / stores.
- Responsibilities for an Apprentice Plumbing & Heating Engineer:
- Be punctual, listen to and follow direction of lead Plumber
- Develop general understanding of all works carried out by Company and ask questions
- Develop keen eye for the quality that is expected of us
- Assist with testing, inspecting, and recording for all instals and maintenance works
- Provide technical and general reports both written and oral including customer feedback on maintenance issues for both current and future developments where necessary
- Complete job and time sheets and submit them weekly - Keep up to date with any training / courses and actively involve the company in your studies
- Wear correct PPE to all jobs
Training to be provided
The practical training period of the Plumbing apprenticeship is the time dedicated to the development of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours for which includes the following components:
- A Plumbing and heating qualification at Level 3 (City and Guilds 9189-05)
- On-programme assignments and practical assessments
- Workplace portfolio of evidence
- English and maths at Level 2 must be achieved
- Day release at Cambridge campus and working alongside qualified, friendly and a small team of professionally trained/ experienced Plumbing & Heating Technicians.
The apprentice would be assigned an assessor through the college, who would typically come out to visit in the workplace to assess workplace competence.
The knowledge side would be provided via day release attendance, assignments, evidence of workplace competence. Portfolio would be checked via an online Smart Assessor
Entry requirements
GCSE or equivalent English and Maths (Grade C/4) Essential

Things to consider
Must have a CSCS Card before staring work (this can be arranged if not already registered). Also, the successful applicant will require to hold a DBS checked.
Looking for candidates that can either drive, or source transportation to Cambridge, Ely, and Newmarket, and all surrounding areas including Milton, Sutton, Soham, Chatteris, Earith, Waterbeach and Littleport.
Has good hands-on practical skills ability and a willingness to learn, with a positive work ethic is a must.
