At the University of Cambridge the Research Office is part of the Unified Administrative Service and is responsible for the central administration and for taking a strategic role in the oversight and development of all aspects of the University’s research activities. They have an opportunity for an administrator apprentice to join the team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Research Office. The Research Office provides a number of essential services to the University of Cambridge and is responsible for the central administration and for taking a strategic role in the oversight and development of all aspects of the University’s research activities. The role provides general administrative support for the Research Operations Office Team. The role provides support over a wide range of areas and project that impact the Research Office and it’s teams.
Becoming an apprentice at the University of Cambridge is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and training. You will learn on the job by working with an experienced Professional Services team and have allocated study time to complete course work. You will contribute to the daily organisational task of a highly successful team.
The role will focus on support for the Research Operations Office and it’s teams
You will provide an administrative and clerical service across various functions of the Research Operations Office and it’s teams that support the management of the grant lifecycle to assist with a growing portfolio of work and responsibilities.:
Handle enquiries and correspondence as a point of contact, draft replies to straightforward enquiries and refer others as appropriate, monitor the central email boxes to ensure all enquiries are responded to or passed to relevant members of staff. This will involve working collaboratively with other departmental professional services staff, PIs and Research Office colleagues.
Maintain and update electronic and paper records/ documents and databases, provide statistics using existing templates as required. Following up outstanding information as needed.
Provide support for reporting and reconciliations relating to the Grant Lifecycle.
Carry out general administrative tasks, create and update documents and forms, and contribute to the planning and co-ordination of duties in a particular specialised area, assist in identifying areas of improvement on processes, liaise with team members and others for information.
Assist with projects related to work of the Research Operations Office.
The role holders will provide administrative support to a wide range of teams including: Pre Award, Post Award, Contracts Administration and Quality Assurance and Compliance.
GCSE Grade A*-C (9-4) in maths and English is essential.
AS Level or A Level is desired.
Competent user to Microsoft outlook, word and excel

There will be long periods of time working at a computer.
There may be an opportunity for a full time role on completion of the apprenticeship, if the position arises.
