Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom, is located 70 miles northeast of London and 25 miles northeast of Cambridge. The Liberty Wing consists of more than 4,000 military members, over 1,500 British and U.S. civilians and includes a geographically-separated unit at nearby RAF Feltwell. RAF Lakenheath is the largest U.S. Air Force-operated base in England and the only U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) F-35/F-15 fighter wing.

Main description

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Electronic Industrial Controls (BMS) Mechanics at the 48th Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom.

RAF Lakenheath are looking to recruit a Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic (BMS) to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate various types of moderately complex electronically controlled equipment, working within the 48 CES HVAC section.
You will provide maintenance/repair of Real Property Installed Equipment (RPIE) that is located within the production groups in a timely and cost effective manner. You will plan and lay out work from electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical orders. The role involved reviewing work order requirements reflecting systems to be overhauled, repaired, fabricated, or modified. You will visit work site and analyze, evaluate, and determine damage when planning repair and modification projects.

Experience required

  • Must have knowledge of the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of electronically controlled industrial systems, components, and accessories.
  • Must have knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits for power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, similar devices and a variety of technical data, such as schematics, diagrams, and technical orders relating to the electronics trade.
  • Knowledge of the operation, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi-component assemblies and devices.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools of the electronics trade to include a variety of electronic, electrical, or
    electromechanical test and measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits to power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, and similar devices.
  • Knowledge of electronics theory, including transistor and solid-state diode theory, operation of pulse forming networks, voltage and current comparison networks such as the Wheatstone Bridge or other balancing networks, and basic electron tube theory.

Qualifications

  • Must hold Level III NVQ/HND/HNC/BTEC, City and Guilds, or equivalent qualifications in an appropriate
    discipline, together with a minimum of three years work experience.
  • Providing a copy of your valid CAT B driving license.

Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible
working policies. 

  • Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
  • May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend
    necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
  • A 6 month probationary period will be required.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend
    necessary training
