Established in 1992, and now trading for over 30 years, Burley Hydraulics (Cambridgeshire) Limited was originally set up to offer local industries a repair service on hydraulic hose assemblies from our trade counter based in St. Ives.
From our hydraulic cylinder repair centre’s we are able to offer a full hydraulic cylinder repair, from the simple re-seal to bespoke cylinder design including welding and machining. Our skilled technicians have over 30 years’ experience and can fully test and build any hydraulic cylinder.
Our service centre’s offer full hydraulic system design and build. Offering both off the shelf hydraulic power packs to a complete bespoke system. From the original concept to build and commissioning our technical team will oversee every stage.
Main description
Our service centre’s offer full hydraulic system design and build. Offering both off the shelf hydraulic power packs to a complete bespoke system. From the original concept to build and commissioning our technical team will oversee every stage. We are currently looking an Engineering apprentice to join and learn within our team.
Main Duties:
- Working within our hydraulic service department in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire.
- Repairing and manufacturing hydraulic cylinders and ancillary equipment.
- Stripping and assessing damaged hydraulic cylinders.
- Identifying component parts required, seals, tubes, rod etc.
- Logging job through our Tablet system onto the company server.
- Liaising with office to quote customer correct repair / replacement costs.
- Training on manual Lathe & milling work, as required. Training on welding and plasma cutting.
- Full rebuilding of hydraulic cylinders. Using hydraulic test rig. Using Hand tools. Using Hydraulic Pullers. Using Paint spray booth.
- Opportunity for the correct candidate to progress through the business and be involved with hydraulic system design and build and full commissioning onsite throughout the UK.
Entry requirements
GCSE Maths and English at grades 4 or above - Desirable.

The learner will be studying the Engineering Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
Day release to the NCTC.
Things to consider
Working Under Pressure to tight schedules. Heavy lifting using lifting equipment. Working with High Pressure equipment. Working under own initiative. Use of computer systems and tablets.
Future Prospects
Prospects - Development and training to progress into system design and build. On site Service engineer - Fault finding and serving of hydraulic equipment. Sales roles.
