By 1969, we had diversified into cargo and container handling as Hong Kong International Terminals Limited (Hutchison
Ports HIT), and in 1994, as our international network of ports grew, we became Hutchison Port Holdings Limited (Hutchison Ports). Further expansion followed, into logistics and transportation businesses, including cruise ship terminals, distribution centres, rail services and ship repair.
Each year we offer an apprenticeship package recruiting 10 apprentices at a time. Our apprenticeship recruitment is now open for 2024 and we look forward to hearing from any interested prospective engineers.
Our fantastic Engineering Apprenticeship opportunity has arisen for aspiring engineers to join our scheme at either Port of Felixstowe or Harwich International. Both our ports are now looking for multiple apprentices across each site to continue our fantastic relationship with Colchester Institute. In your first year, you will be based at Colchester Institute, where you will be studying `full-time and trained to prepare for your then on-site placements in both year two and three.
During the three-year apprenticeship agreement, you will be provided with excellent opportunities to work on live projects and state of the art operational equipment, whilst being introduced to the engineering requirements within Hutchison Ports UK.
Prior to your submission, please ensure that you state which site you would prefer to be based at; either Port of Felixstowe, Harwich International or No Preference. You will also be required to make your own travel arrangements to Colchester Institute for the duration of your apprenticeship.
You will be someone who enjoys learning every day, relishes the delivery of outstanding work and has a desire to be part of a successful team of like-minded people.
Suitable applicants will have the following competencies;
- A passion for learning and engineering
- Demonstrable problem-solving skills.
- Apprentices must also be enthusiastic, resilient and can demonstrate good problem solving and team working abilities.
- Evident interest in engineering as a subject.
- In line with industry Code of Practice, successful applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old prior to the apprenticeship commencing in August 2024.
- Math and English GSCE’s Level 4 (C) or above.
- Hold a full driver’s licence (by August 2025).
- Experience of engineering activities are advantageous but not necessary. This may include: Hobbies or voluntary work.
- Previous work experience.
- Engineering related school subjects.
- GCSE Level 3 – Science.
Key Dates to keep for the diary:
Aptitude Testing Day: 22nd March – Colchester Institute (All shortlisted Harwich and Port of Felixstowe applicants).
Assessment Centre: 18th & 19th April – Port of Felixstowe (All shortlisted Harwich and Port of Felixstowe applicants).
Interviews: May – Interviews will be held on-site at either the Port of Felixstowe or Harwich International Port, dependant on your preferred site.
