Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom, is located 70 miles northeast of London and 25 miles northeast of Cambridge. The Liberty Wing consists of more than 4,000 military members, over 1,500 British and U.S. civilians and includes a geographically-separated unit at nearby RAF Feltwell.

RAF Lakenheath is the largest U.S. Air Force-operated base in England and the only U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) F-35/F-15 fighter wing.

Main description

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Heavy Mobile
Equipment Mechanics at the 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom.

The successful applicant will be required to troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, modify, and maintain a variety of
types of heavy mobile and automotive vehicles and equipment.

They will perform heavy mobile equipment mechanic work including troubleshooting malfunctions, determining
the type and extent of repair" required, repairing, and maintaining equipment including 25,000 (25K) and 60,000
(60K) pound capacity aircraft platform loading deck cargo loaders, bulldozers, excavators, front loaders. power
shovels, road graders, dump trucks, and mobile cranes. Repairs, overhauls, tears down/rebuilds, modifies, and
maintains a variety of systems and components whilst conducting functional and performance tests on
completed work products using a variety of test procedures and equipment.

Qualifications

UK Certification requirements of Level 3 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) or Level 3 National
Diploma, or equivalent. Certificates must be provided with application to qualify.

• Must receive training on the handling and disposition of hazardous matter.
• A valid Category B driver’s license is required. A copy must be provided with application.
• Will be required to pass a pre-employment physical to take place at RAF Lakenheath.

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of a variety of types of heavy mobile equipment and automotive vehicles sufficient to
    troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, tear down/rebuild, and maintain systems and components.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures and environmental directives pertaining to handling hazardous
    materials.
  • Skill in troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions in a variety of types of heavy mobile equipment and
    automotive vehicles.
  • Skill in using a variety of hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and items of test equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply manufacturers’ repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics, safety
    manuals, and similar guides sufficient to effectively maintain, repair, overhaul, and tear down/rebuild
    equipment components and systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, provide training to others, and maintain records

Other Important Information

Hours of work: 39 per week - Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with
organization’s flexible working policies.

  • Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK
    laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
  • May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend
    necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
  • A 6-month probationary period will be required.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend
    necessary training
