Employer Description

We are a domiciliary care company based in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. Domiciliary or home care means to travel between people's homes and provide a service that enables them to live independently. Our services include: personal care, continence management, medication administration, moving and handling, nutrition and hydration, light housekeeping and companionship. Every customer under our care has different health and care needs and therefore require different types of care packages, some require a single visit daily whereas others may require live-in care.

Main description

We are currently looking for a Homecare Assistant apprentice to join our team.

Main Duties:

  • Assisting with personal care (washing, dressing) and continence care (toileting and catheter care)
  • Preparing meals and drinks
  • Administering medication
  • Using moving and handling equipment
  • Liaising with GPs, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers and other professionals
  • Working with members of the team on a daily basis
  • Identifying causes for concern with our customers and reporting to management

We have positions in various areas: Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Sudbury, Stowmarket.

Entry requirements

GCSE English and Maths grade 4 or above or equivalent.

Training to be Provided

The learner will be studying the Adult Care Worker Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification, which will include the qualification Level 2 Diploma in Care and the Care Certificate.
Day release to West Suffolk College.
Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held.

Things to consider

Homecare requires individuals to work in the community, moving between houses in a given location. One of the requirements is to have a full driving license and access to a car.

Future Prospects

We do not believe in recruiting externally for senior members of the team, we prefer to upskill our current staff by giving them the opportunity to climb up the ladder. The next steps after a Homecare assistant are as follows: Senior carers, Team leaders, Care supervisors and Care managers.
