Internships across Suffolk Councils

Applications for the 2018 Intership placements are now open click here.

The Internship Programme is part of the Raising the Bar - Exemplar Employer work. Councils in Suffolk are working together to create opportunities for young people. Each year, the internship programme gives undergraduates the best possible work experience, enabling them to develop employability skills. It attracts young Suffolk people to work in Suffolk, and give them an understanding of career choices in Local Government.

Anyone who is currently an undergraduate in the UK can apply for an internship. You must have at least one year of your course to complete. As part of RtB we are trying to encourage young people looking for their first step work/career experience and particularly those who either live in Suffolk, or come from Suffolk (have family living here) to apply.

As an intern or industrial placement you can expect to be paid the National Living Wage, and are eligible to take annual leave as and when accrued over the 12 week (or up to 12 months for industrial placements) period. Business travel expenses, where eligible, will also be reimbursed. Flexible, smarter ways of working are actively encouraged throughout the councils, so these can include working from home or different locations, or starting the working day earlier and leaving earlier. These can all be discussed with your placement manager and agreed when you start in the placement.
