Main description

Cavendish CofE Primary School is a Church of England village school for children aged 4-11, with strengths in Arts, Forest School and the local environment. We have 90 children on role who are educated across 4 classes. There is an exciting opportunity for a teaching assistant apprentice to join the team.

The Learning Support Assistant Apprentice will support the class teacher to enhance pupils' learning.

Other duties will include:

Work with children in groups or individually.
Ensure pupils understand the work set and know their learning objectives.
Promote self belief, social inclusion and high self esteem.
Support pupils' wellbeing.
Ensure a positive nurturing and safe environment.
Support playtime and lunchtime supervision.
Prepare resources and follow direction from the class teacher.
Support spirtual, moral, social and cultural development within the Christian ethos of the school - - model positive behaviours.
The post holder works closely with the class teacher as the first point of contact and will be seen as part of the whole school staff community.

Entry requirements

Five GCSE's grade 4 (C) or higher to include Maths and English (or equivalent). This is an essential requirement for the post.

Skills required

Good literacy and numeracy skills is essential.
Ability to interact with children is essential.
Strong communication skills.
Well organised.
Ability to work on own initiative and also as part of a team.

Personal qualities

Applications are sought from individuals with a caring and conscientious nature who seek to support others in an educational setting. Kindness, consideration for others and supporting children to develop a love for learning are considered assets for this role. Interests in any of the Arts, Sports and the Environment would be considered an advantage. Above all, an enthusiastic and positive attitude to join in all aspects of school life is both essential and most rewarding for the candidate themselves.

Training to be Provided

Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship

Things to consider

This role includes indoor and outdoor support for children across the curriculum. The school has Artsmark and Forest School status and the applicant should be prepared to actively engage with all aspects of the school curriculum. The vast majority of the post will be working directly with children, you will therefore be a role model at all times. The post is mainly based in one classroom but will involve some work across the school. This postholder is required to fulfill all safeguarding criteria, including an enhanced DBS check. The school and grounds are a non smoking environment. Salary is paid monthly in arrears, pro rata, as the position is term time only. Enhanced DBS check, health check and references are required as part of the school safeguarding procedure. The successful post holder will be expected to follow school policies including those related to appropriate dress code and social media. As part of the application process, we would like candidates to include their commitment to supporting children's learning and development and to detail any skills they believe they would be able to bring to our school.

Future Prospects

As well as ensuring full competency as a Learning Support Assistant, this standard provides a foundation for potential progression into a number of career paths in the educational sector including Higher Level Teaching Assistant.
