Remediation work on piers under the elevated section of the M4 in west London is coming to an end for the year.
A Jackson Highways team is overseeing the ongoing project on this structure – also known as the Chiswick flyover – replacing steel reinforcement where they are badly corroded and reapplying concrete where it has delaminated.
The work involves removing delaminated concrete through hydro-demolition and then applying concrete by dry spray. The process is being carried out in phases on the soffit of the cantilever crosshead so as not to expose too much of the steel at once because the M4 deck overhead remains operational during these works.
Key supply chain partners on this scheme include hydro-blasting specialists RGL, Gunform, experts in sprayed concrete applications, and CPT who specialise in corrosion prevention.
The team will return early next spring to continue this work on another section of the flyover.
