Employer Description

Sackers are a scrap metal and waste recycling centre. We have one of the biggest metal shredders in East Anglia. Our waste collections for commercial businesses and skip hire for domestic and commercial customers. We process the scrap at and waste and sell it to international markets, mainly China and India and we are expanding into new markets. We are one of the largest exporters through Felixstowe in the region. With £35m turnover with 64 employees we are based near Ipswich, Suffolk.

Main description

Sackers Ltd are a scrap metal and waste recycling centre. They have one of the biggest metal shredders in East Anglia. Our waste collections for commercial businesses and skip hire for domestic and commercial customers. There is an opportunity for a Mechanical Maintenance Apprentice to join the team.

To support (the maintenance team), learn and develop skills and understanding in the following areas:  

Planned maintenance in a timely and safe manner.
Reactive maintenance and repairs in a timely, and safe manner.
Involved in the installation of heavy engineering plant.
Assist with servicing of machinery.
Assist and work with contractors.
Fill in maintenance admin and record documents.
Efficiency of mechanical, hydraulic, electric, pneumatic plant and equipment.
To be responsible of the health and safety of themselves and others at all times.
Learning the importance of critical parts stock.
Comfortable working in hazardous areas.
Be available to under-take overtime at a reasonable request by the company.
Portraying a positive image of the company in a professional manner at all times.
You will report to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above in maths and English, or equivalent, is essential.

Skills required

Full UK driving licence

Able to work safely and efficiently

Training to be Provided

Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship

Things to consider

You will be working on a shift rota. You may be based at various locations: Great Blakenham, Needham Market or Ipswich, therefore you need to have a full UK driving license.

45hr working week if the applicant is over 18.

Future Prospects

There may be an opportunity for a full time role on completion of the apprenticeship.
