Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Programme
The Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Programme (formerly the UK Upstream Oil and Gas Industry Technician Training Scheme) is recognised as one of the most successful apprenticeship schemes of its kind.
Established in 1999, the scheme continues to grow in stature and offers a reputable learning experience, whilst providing the oil and gas industry with suitably skilled, trained and motivational technicians.
The Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Programme (OGTAP) is managed by OPITO, the skills organisation for oil and gas, and the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB). OPITO manage the programme on behalf of the operators and the ECITB manage the programme on behalf of the contractors.
The apprenticeship programme is comprised of two stages:
- Trainees will attend an industry appointed college for 21 months where they will gain various qualifications
- On-the-job training with a sponsoring UK based energy company will take place for two years, where trainees will be mentored alongside experienced staff, gaining industry specific skills as well as an SVQ Level 3 in their chosen discipline.
