There is an opportunity for a payroll administrator apprentice to join.

We are delighted to offer an apprenticeship in our Payroll Department for an Apprentice Payroll Administrator. You will be joining an extremely busy department, providing administration support to the payroll team in the day to day processing, inputting and calculation associated with providing an excellent payroll and pension service.

Main Description

Working as part of a busy fast-paced team, candidates are required to be accurate and have excellent attention to detail along with the ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload. This is an excellent career development opportunity for self-motivated and enthusiastic individuals who wish to pursue a career within the NHS and gain exposure to a wide range of tasks.

Duties will include:

  • answering employee telephone queries
  • assisting with the production and issuing of pay slips to all staff on a weekly/monthly basis
  • data input
  • filing and photocopying
  • dealing with the incoming and outgoing post
  • other general administrative tasks.

Entry requirements

You will need to have a minimum GCSE Grade 4/C or Functional Skills Level 2 or above in Maths & English.

Ability and desire to develop from the training and coaching provided
Ability and interest in working in a patient and customer care focused environment
An understanding of confidentiality
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written
Ability to work accurately

Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise day to day workloads

Desirable criteria

ICT qualification such as Clait, EDCL ec.
Experience of working (including any work experience, voluntary, weekend, part time work or school associated activities)
Ability to be flexible and adaptable to demands of the job
Experience of IT software programs
Ability to touch type
The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of safe, kind, excellent.

Personal qualities

You will be enthusiastic, have a positive work ethic, be keen to learn and able to work in a team. You will receive support to gain a wide range of experience and skills, supervision and mentoring.

Training to be Provided

Level 3 Payroll Administrator Apprenticeship
Payroll Technician Certificate

Things to consider

The contract length is for 24 months and the apprenticeship salary on commencement is £10,924; after 12 months in post this will increase to the National Minimum Wage (depending upon your age).

Future Prospects

You will be supported to apply for permanent employment towards the end of your contract. We have a high percentage of previous apprentices who have successfully gained further employment with us with opportunities to gain higher qualifications.
