Framlingham Medical Practice is a rural practice with approximately 10,000 patients. We have a branch practice at Earl Soham which is 10 minutes away from the main Framlingham surgery. We are a dispensing GP practice and are subscribed to the Dispensing Doctors Association Scheme. The practice has a Clinical Pharmacist and pharmacy technician as well as 2 pharmacy technician trainees. We have built a foundation of good training and support to our existing dispensers. The Pharmacy Services Assistant (PSA) works under the supervision of a Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, or other accountable healthcare professional. The PSA provides a variety of pharmacy and medicines services to patients, the public and other professional healthcare teams. The PSA supports the delivery of pharmacy services within the GP Practice.

Main description

Framlingham Medical Practice is a rural practice with approximately 10,000 patients. We have a branch practice at Earl Soham which is 10 minutes away from the main Framlingham surgery.

We are a dispensing GP practice and are subscribed to the Dispensing Doctors Association Scheme, currently looking for a Pharmacy Services Assistant apprentice.

Main Duties:

  • Under the guidance of the Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technicians, undertake a comprehensive programme of training to achieve NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant
  • Under the guidance of the Dispensary team, process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs, independent prescribers and external prescribers where appropriate, in accordance with the principles of good practice and following Practice
  • Policies/Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • To deliver a consistently high standard of professional customer service to all patients both in person and over the phone.
  • Complete all tasks assigned with a high level of accuracy
  • Work in accordance with strict guidelines for Information Governance and maintain strict Patient Confidentiality at all times
  • To provide cover for sickness and absence as required

Entry requirements

Apprentices without Level 1 English and Maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for Level 2 (GCSE) English and Maths prior to taking the end point assessment.

For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeships English and Maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language qualification are an alternative to English qualifications for whom this is their primary language.

Training to be Provided

The learner will be studying the Pharmacy Services Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
Day release to West Suffolk College.
Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held.

Things to consider

The position of Pharmacy Services Assistant apprentice is required to work at both Framlingham and Earl Soham surgery dispensaries. The job is a patient facing role and requires good communication skills.

Future Prospects

You will be contracted under an apprenticeship contract. We cannot guarantee a permanent position at the end of the training but if one arose you would be eligible to apply.
