BSP International Foundations Ltd is one of the world’s premier manufacturers of hydraulic hammer and compaction equipment. From its Claydon site BSP is responsible for the design, sales and manufacturing and employs 40 people. They have an opportunity for an apprentice to join the team.
BSP require an apprentice to gain skills and experience in heavy engineering through all of our production processes (welding/fabrication, machine shop and fitting).
As a key member of the team they will shadow skilled operators in a variety disciplines with a view to specialising during second year.
Duties and responsibilities relating to all disciplines:
•Learn to read and interpret technical drawings.
•Measure components to ensure component quality and accuracy.
•Read and understand risk assessments relating to the area of work.
•Use of overhead gantry crane for moving of large components.
•Understand and abide all Health and Safety guidelines.
•Liaising with design to ensure designs/drawings are correct
Shadow the machine setter to learn and operate the following machines within our machine shop.
Work within our fabrication department learning the following.
•Messer profile burner
•Metal cutting and preparation
Shadowing skilled fitter to understand and perform the following:
•Deburring and preparation of machined/fabricated components for painting.
•Assembly of mechanical components.
The placements within the machine shop, fabrication and fitting would be 4 month placements to get a broad understanding of manufacturing before agreeing which area would be most suitable to them and us as a company. It is vital that any apprentices learn all disciplines to have an understanding of the importance and consequences of each area.
