Layham Hall was established in 2000. It is a world class dressage facility located in Suffolk, England, one hour from London by train and convenient to Stansted and London City Airport. Layham Hall is a continuation of the successful 30 year collaboration of Linda Keenan and Kenneth Dyrby which was known in the US as The Tryon Group (South Carolina and Wellington Florida).
Main description
Layham Hall are looking for a senior equine groom to support the running of their dressage yard. You will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of 5* care of horses including physiotherapy and TRT method of horse handling. Due to the working hours (45 hours per week) required, this is only available to applicants that are 18 years or older.
What will the apprentice be doing?
Layham Hall are looking to take on an apprentice equine groom. The are a top-class private dressage training stable. Head trainer is international Grand Prix rider/trainer.
You will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of 5* care of horses including physiotherapy and TRT method of horse handling.
Duties on the yard to include (but not be limited to):
Mucking out
Feeding
Tacking up
Turning out/bringing in
Any other reasonable duties
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will be working towards the Level 3 Senior Equine Groom apprenticeship.
All training will be completed at the employer's premises with the employer and Haddon training.
You will need to be prepared to work towards level 2 in Functional Skills maths and/or English if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above in these subjects.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There may be an opportunity to become head groom on the yard and also gain your HGV licence.

Things to consider
This role will require working outdoors in all weathers, so any applicant must be comfortable with that. It is also a physically demanding role so physical fitness is important. Please note this is strictly an non-smoking yard. Accommodation is available onsite, however there is no option to put your own horse into livery.
