Job Placement Summary:

As part of our development team, you will help our customers take advantage of the potential of Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Microsoft Power Platform, through their use of our recruitment solution. We are a team dedicated to exceeding our customers’ expectations by delivering a standard recruitment solution and enabling them to customise it to work how they want; so they can bring the best out of their staff and of their business.

As the job market continues its recovery from the effects of the recent national restrictions, we see opportunities for us to grow our offering in the U.K. and to expand into other regions. As we take on new customers, we need to increase our capacity to rapidly enhance the standard Pump solution, as well as to improve our testing and DevOps practices to become more efficient. The Software Developer Kickstart Placement will enable us to do this by assisting with such work as a member of the cross-functional development team responsible for all aspects of the Pump development cycle, from design, to release, through to support.

Working as part of a team, you will be supported to complete the main activities of this role, as follows:

  • To carry out work that enhances the Pump solution or resolves bugs that are important to our customers.
  • To work with the other members of the development team to design and implement solutions in Pump.
  • To plan the design, development, testing and release effort required to provide incremental improvements our customers, in collaboration other members of the development team.
  • To maintain a knowledge base that helps customers self-serve when they have issues or questions.
  • To assist with support when customers encounter issues while using Pump and Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Essential skills, experience and qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in any discipline is desirable but not essential.
  • Good understanding of the following programming & scripting languages: C#, JavaScript, SQL.
  • An understanding of cloud platform technologies is desirable (training provided if needed)
  • An understanding of application lifecycle tools is desirable (training provided if needed)
  • An inventive and logical approach to problem solving.
  • Good attention to detail in verbal and written communication.
  • The ability to work remotely, independently and to ambitious deadlines.
  • A responsible attitude focused on exceeding customers’ expectations.

Number of hours per week: A minimum of 25 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours up to 37.5 hours per week.

Working pattern and contracted hours: Monday to Friday, flexible working hours from 8am to 6:30pm, with core hours from 10am to 3:30pm.

Hourly rate of pay: National Minimum Wage

As a Microsoft Partner, we encourage all our staff to gain Microsoft Certification for roles and applications that are relevant to Pump, from the basics to advanced use.

The certification pathway that we have set out for this role, is as follows:

The courses for these certifications equate to over 100 hours’ worth of online training, with additional time required for student-led learning, as well as undertaking the exams.

We support our employees to gain these certifications by:

  • Allowing time to study and sit examinations, as many times as deemed necessary.
  • Covering the cost of online learning and exams

Microsoft Certifications are recognised internationally and demonstrate knowledge and understanding applicable to any business or role, especially those with Microsoft Dynamics 365, the Power Platform and Microsoft Azure.

Training will be given on the theoretical and practical aspects needed to undertake the role. This will focus on Agile, Agile frameworks and the tools we use at Pump, such as Microsoft Teams and Azure DevOps. This training will be provided in-house through our Certified Scrum Masters, and through support from your team. Professional development in these areas will enable you to work as part of a modern development team and are transferrable to other customer-focus based businesses.

Throughout your placement you will be supported directly by a mentor from the Pump team, but you will also have the support of the development team around you. The support we provide you with will help you to develop transferable skills such as timekeeping, communication and teamwork, as well as learn the technical knowledge and practices to carry out the role. You will also be included in team appraisal cycle, which occurs twice a year.

As part of the development team, you will also be part of a regular cycle of retrospective discussions carried out with others on the team. These discussions are designed to identify areas of improvement and to decide actions to take by the team and its members.

As you learn and your skills and knowledge develop, you will be encouraged to take on increasingly complex work that will continually challenge you.
