Discover why accountancy is more than just numbers
We are offering a Virtual Insight programmes: our Explore BDO Virtual Insight Week (1st – 5th August 2022) for students in Years 11-12 who meet our social mobility criteria.

Find your future at BDO

Our Explore BDO Virtual Insight week runs from 1st – 5th August 2022 and is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the world of accounting. You’ll learn about BDO, accounting careers and why what we do is nothing like the number crunching ideas you may have had. You’ll develop your professional skills and meet people from all across our business.

We believe that your socio-economic background should not determine your career success, so as part of our commitment to ensure access to the world of accountancy, we’re offering students from low socio-economic backgrounds the opportunity to learn more about the accountancy careers available at BDO.

This programme is open to Yr 11-12 students who attend a state school and meet our social mobility criteria based on the job of the main earner in their household.

We use the Social Mobility Commission guidance to determine which jobs meet the low-socioeconomic background criteria. The following list is an example of some of the jobs that would meet the criteria:

Technical and craft jobs: such as motor mechanic, plumber, printer, electrician, gardener, train driver, etc.

  • Routine, semi-routine manual and service jobs: such as postal worker, machine operative, security guard, caretaker, farm worker, catering assistant, sales assistant, HGV driver, cleaner, porter, packer, labourer, waiter/waitress, bar staff.
  • Long-term unemployed: claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance or earlier unemployment benefit for more than a year.
However, if you’re unsure if your parent or guardian’s job makes you eligible, please do apply anyway. Our team will be able to let you know if you are eligible once they have reviewed your application.

For those in the relevant year of study and with the required grades, there is also the opportunity to secure a fast-track onto either our 2023 summer school or 2023 school leaver apprenticeship process.

How to apply:

You will need to complete our application form and if you meet our eligibility requirements, you will be invited to a virtual workshop to help you prepare and give you hints and tips for the final stage, our online test.
