This appointment offers the rare opportunity to gain the Early Years Educator qualification in Child Care, whilst earning the Living Wage salary of £7.60 per hour. This role will enable the apprentice to gain and enhance relevant skills, knowledge, behaviours and experience within a nursery setting by working alongside qualified and/or experienced colleagues. The role will be undertaken within the framework of an agreed apprenticeship standard (Early Years Educator – Level 3) and the post holder will be closely supported and supervised in the delivery of tasks and activities.  

We are seeking a self-motivated applicant to join our busy and well-established team to provide a safe, secure, exciting and stimulating environment for the babies and children in our Nursery. This post is available immediately on a full-time, fixed-term basis (17 months) working Monday to Friday on a shift basis. This appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced Level from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Job Function/Purpose:

This setting is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. To work as part of a team under the supervision of the Lead Practitioner to provide a safe, secure, caring, exciting and stimulating environment for babies and children.

Selection Criteria:

• To have functional skills in English and Mathematics to start a level 3 qualification in
Children and Young Peoples Workforce
• Committed to a child centred approach
• Enthusiastic about gaining new knowledge and developing good practice
• Able to display self motivation
• Able to work as part of a team
• To have the ability to work in partnership with parents
• Good communication and listening skills

Care

• To act as a key person to a small group of children, under the supervision of the room
leader
• As part of a team – to plan, carry out and evaluate a varied and exciting age
appropriate curriculum
• To promote children’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual well being
• To understand and work to Nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal
with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents,
complaints and emergencies
• To help ensure the Nursery always meets Ofsted requirements

Administration

• Under supervision, keep individual development records on the children in your care
• As part of a team to make written long, medium and short term plans
• Under the guidance of the SENCO and Nursery management to contribute to plans
for children with additional needs
• To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship

Teamwork

• To attend and participate in room meetings
• To attend and participate in staff meetings
• To foster open communication to facilitate good team working
Partnership with Parents
• To give parents regular feedback about their child’s progress at the Nursery
• To listen to and respect parent childcare practices and point of view
• To respect confidentiality at all times

Other Duties

• To maintain a high standard of hygiene
• To promote healthy eating and good self-care habits in children
• As part of a team to provide and maintain the children’s learning environment, so it is
safe, secure and exciting
• As part of a team to provide a stimulating outdoor environment
