Working week
Normal working hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday with an hour unpaid break each day - usually split into two fifteen minute breaks and a 30 minute break for lunch. Total hours per week: 40.00
Expected duration
18 months


Main duties will include:

  • Working safely in an engineering environment
  • Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits
  • Forming and assembling electrical cable enclosure and support systems
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
  • Learning principles of engineering technology
  • Learning principles of electrical and electronics technology
  • Maintaining electrical wiring support systems
  • Ensuring all items are fitted to the highest standards using the correct fixings and pass checks
  • Repair, service and testing of welding and cutting equipment
  • Repair and service of fume extraction equipment
  • Carry out safety testing of various electrical equipment
  • Carry out calibration and/or validation of welding equipment
  • Carry out software updates/upgrades
  • Assemble and test new welding and cutting system packages
  • Assemble, test and safety test hire equipment
  • Fill-in all paperwork relevant to the above duties to a high standard.
  • Assisting with incoming and outgoing deliveries
  • Assisting with answering, directing phone calls and customer queries
  • Taking accurate messages and passing on relevant information
  • Typing and updating documents
  • Support sales and admin where required
  • Assisting customers at our trade counter
  • Manufacturing and Engineering organisations require their apprentices to have a set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that will ensure success both in their role and in the overall company objectives.

Knowledge of:

  • Cable types and where they should be used
  • Electrical and electronic assembly and testing techniques
  • Specific safe working practices, isolation procedures and safe reinstating of equipment/system that need to be observed


  • Wire and terminate different types of cabling e.g. single core, multi core, screened, fire resistant, armoured etc
  • Assemble and test a range of electrical components e.g. component panels, isolator switches, fuses, circuit breakers, contactors, relays, rail mounted terminal blocks etc
  • Assemble and test a range of electronic components e.g. resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors etc
  • Follow appropriate completion activities and restore equipment/system to service after the assembly and testing has been completed
