Muntons is a significant global supplier to the food and drinks industry and has been producing high-quality malt and malted ingredients for some of the most famous, and well-loved brands around the globe for the over 100 years.

To be part of the Muntons Engineering team responsible for the maintenance and continued efficient & safe running of the Stowmarket site. To take on the apprenticeship provided recognised by Muntons to meet the correct framework to outcome. To eventually be responsible for carrying out a range of electrical and mechanical engineering works, including planned maintenance, small projects, installations & breakdown repairs etc.

Day to Day engineering-Lead by and accompanied with your mentor:

  • To provide a dynamic and proactive response to engineering breakdowns, in order to maximise production and minimise plant downtime. ·
  • Plan access to perform preventive maintenance tasking as per allocation from the CMMS system
  • To communicate on a daily basis with your mentor / Engineering Team Leader to ensure established priorities are dealt with in a co-ordinated approach.
  • Participate and update all taskings from the CMMS system, Prioritising tasks, breakdowns and preventative maintenance task.
  • To work flexibly and respond to the changing demands of the work, adapting to new work routines and practices accordingly.

General Maintenance activities.  Lead by and accompanied with your mentor:

  • General day to day repairs within skillset and training
  • To carry out plant modifications as required
  • To participate in all aspects of maintenance work associated with plant shutdowns

    Plant Hygiene. Lead by and accompanied with your mentor:
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are removed from the food processing areas when completing tasks
  • Ensure the engineering workshop is tidy and maintains a good standard of house- keeping
  • Administration. Lead by and accompanied with your mentor:
  • Respond to our internal customers request, providing updates via- email & CMMS system
  • Keep up to date on tasks and include all information – work done-when updating CMMS

Electrical. Lead by and accompanied with your mentor:

  • Successfully fault find on electrical control and power systems identifying & including intermittent faults on processes on site
  • Identify reasons for a Motor overloading, Test/ change failed motors, select correct equivalent alternative if needed to get process up and running
  • Electro-mechanical. Lead by and accompanied with your mentor:
  • Fault find and repair pneumatic solenoid valves, cylinders
  • Fault find and test electrical actuators on valves and air louvres
  • Fault find, test & adjust electric brakes on motors

Mechanical. Lead by and accompanied with your mentor:

  • Identify and repair failed bearings on shafts, motors, conveyors & elevators.
  • Perform repairs to shafts
  • Repairs to belt conveyors & drums bearings

Entry requirements

GCSE English and Maths grade 5 to 9 - Essential

Training to be Provided

Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Level 3

Things to consider

Applicants with GCSE level qualifications will be paid between £16,000 - £18,000, with A Levels will be paid between £18,000 - £20,000 There is an element of working at height alongside varied working conditions ranging from dusty, tropical and noisy. On completion of apprenticeship, the role will consist of lone working and working within a team.

Future Prospects

The programme will involve gaining experience and training to develop your knowledge and skills to enable you to take up an Engineering position within the organisation.
