The Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Programme is a 3 year, 9 month programme and is split into two stages. Apprentices will spend 21 months at college, followed by two years on-the-job training at one of our UK based sponsoring companies.
Being an apprentice gives you the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications, combined with practical training with some of the most innovative oil and gas companies in the world. As an OGTAP apprentice you will:
- Study towards related qualifications
- Work alongside experience staff
- Gain job-specific skills
- Earn while you learn
Through a random selection process, apprentices will either be part of the programme under OPITO or ECITB.
OPITO, the skills organisation for the energy industry, manage the programme on behalf of the operating companies, whilst the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) manage on behalf of the contracting companies.
The apprenticeship is offered in four disciplines. When applying you will be asked to state your discipline preference, however, your first choice cannot be guaranteed.
- Electrical Maintenance
- Instrumentation and Control Maintenance
- Mechanical Maintenance
- Process Operations
All applicants must be domicile in the UK for the duration of the course and have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for the programme. Applications must also be 16 years of age by May of the year of applying, there is no upper age limit.
In order to apply, you must have obtained or working towards the following grades or equivalent, depending on whether you have studied in England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland.
Four GCSE (or equivalent) Grade 4 or above:
- English Language
- Double Science or one from Physics, Chemistry or an appropriate Technological subject
- One other subject
We will also consider your application if you do not have Double Science, Physics, Chemistry or Technological Subject requirements but do have the following:
- Mathematics at GCSE Grade 7 or above
- English Language at GCSE Grade 4 or above
- Two other GCSE subjects at Grade 4 or above
International qualifications are accepted; however applicants must submit evidence that their qualifications are equivalent to programme entry requirements.
