Cancer Research UK’s Events team delivers a variety of events across the UK including Race for Life 3K, 5K, 10K, Pretty Muddy, Shine and over 50 third party events supporting our participants.

Race for Life is Cancer Research UK’s biggest series of fundraising events. It started more than 25 years ago and has grown into a series of hundreds of events across the country, raising nearly £500 million towards beating cancer over the last quarter of a century. Take a step forward and kick-start your career working as an Events Assistant at the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating all types of cancer. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain world-class hands-on experience working on some of the country’s leading events.

Main description

Event Assistants play an integral role in the successful delivery of each of these events. 

Successful applicants will gain experience in course, start, finish, stage and volunteer management, as well as opportunities to work at some of our 3rd party partner events delivering post-race support and stewardship or leading a group of volunteers at a cheerpoint. You will become part of a dedicated events team who are experts in their field. They have great fun and develop and deliver inspiring events which bring together communities, survivors, and those who have been touched by cancer. 

You will also be provided with a Cancer Research UK induction, specific event delivery training and have the opportunity to forge great contacts and network within the UK’s largest charity.


The National Events team is a field-based team that covers the entire country.  We are split into 5 divisions.  The divisions cover the following areas:

Division 1 - Scotland, NI, North East
Division 2 – North, North West
Division 3 - Midlands, Central & East of England.
Division 4 - Wales, Shires, South & South West of England
Division 5 - London and South East

Pay and dates

£9.50 per hour 

The event season runs from May – October and you will be required to work at an allocated number of events throughout this period. Most of this work will be at weekends.

Casual contract from 1st May (training begins end of April) until approximately 30th October 2022

Interviews will be held week commencing 7th Feb 2022

Compulsory training is on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st April 2022 at our training centre in Stafford.
