Job Description

The Factory Manager will work in the manufacturing centre of the clothing business. They are in control of the factory where the items are being made. This involves making sure the factory and the machinery is safe to use, that the correct machines are in place as well as ensuring that orders are being made, tested, packaged and delivered on time. They will also need to ensure that deliveries are correct, production is hitting targets, staffing is at the correct safe level, and anything that is going wrong is fixed quickly.

Entry Requirements

Factory Managers can work their way up in a manufacturing plant. Starting of as a machine operator, or quality control operative, or even a forklift driver, to become a supervisor or shift manager, which gives you significant experience to be manager. There are also degree, HND, BTEC and apprenticeship courses in manufacturing, management, business or engineering which would be beneficial. Good understanding of operations and logistics would really impress interviewers. Entry requirements for degrees may involve a HND, BTEC or 3 good A-Levels, which may range from maths, business, engineering, construction, manufacturing, health and safety, operations or logistics related courses. These may require you to have 5 GCSE's (9-4) including maths and English. 

Career Path and Progression

With experience, you could move into overall factory management or strategic planning roles at regional or national level.

If you work for a large national or international company, you may have the opportunity to work overseas.

National Government Policy states that all students should have achieved at least a Grade 4 or C Grade in English & Maths at GCSE.  Achieving this minimum grade in these subjects will increase the opportunities open to you, support your future career development and prospects.

Students who do not meet this standard will be supported to continue to study English and Maths through full-time education or an Apprenticeship.

£23,000 to £55,000
