About the club

The Ipswich and Suffolk Club is a private members club that offers a varied range of social, sporting and fine dining benefits to its members and is also available for hire to both members and non-members as a fine venue for small to medium-sized meetings, conferencescivil weddingsprivate parties and functions.

In recent years the club membership has grown significantly to around 500 all of whom enjoy the varied social, sporting and fine dining benefits that membership provides. Many of our members have enjoyed taking part in club activities from early adulthood through to retirement. New member applications usually involve seeking a proposer and seconder from within the club membership, but those who may for example be new to the area, are welcome to make membership enquiries directly by writing to the General Manager.

The Club was established on Christmas Eve 1885, at the very first meeting of the Ipswich and Suffolk Club Company Limited. Then as now, the club was housed in the former home of the Archdeacon of Suffolk, in an ancient building which can be traced back to the 1500s when monks lived the monastic life within its walls.

For one and a quarter centuries the club has survived the rigours of everything form wars and recessions and social change and urban development and now is home to an active membership of almost 500 ladies and gentlemen.

Events

Many of our members are keen amateur golfers and the club’s golf section provides regular opportunities to play in friendly competition.

The club boasts a superb snooker facility with two first class tables in generously proportioned adjacent rooms, conveniently located next to the club bar!

Sit-down pursuits include our Bridge Club which meets at 9.30 on Tuesday mornings for competitive but friendly duplicate bridge in the Adam Room, two Book Groups, and for those fond of the gaming board, there are sessions for both Scrabble and Chess.
