For more than a century, MHA Larking Gowen has been giving a trusted, reliable and friendly accountancy service to firms of all sizes, as well as individuals, in East Anglia.

We have eight accountancy offices in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, with a combined team of more than 300 dedicated staff.

We cover a range of sectors with specialist teams in corporate finance, personal tax, VAT, business strategy and support and business recovery.

Work Experience

At MHA Larking Gowen we are committed to ensuring that we offer a valuable and beneficial work experience placements. 

If you want to learn more about a career in accountancy, MHA Larking Gowen has opportunities for 1-2 week's work experience placements at some of our offices.

We'll make sure you spend your time valuably and come away with a good idea of what the business of accountancy involves. Some of our present staff started on work experience with us, so you never know what opportunities you might be opening up.

Ideally, you'll be on target to achieve grade Cs or above in your A levels. Graduate level entrants need to be expecting at least a 2:1. 

School Leavers

Every year we have an intake of A level students. Our future intake will be enrolled on a Level 4 Apprenticeship which will develop a wide range of business and personal skills, work-based learning and professional qualifications from AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians). Your initial period of study and work experience will give you a good knowledge of various aspects of accountancy including auditing, accounts preparation, bookkeeping, personal and corporate tax and business development. You'll be able to earn while you learn with hands-on experience of the business. In addition, we'll give you paid study leave and flexible working, with the opportunity to progress further in the business once you've qualified, and for onward study to become a fully qualified Chartered (ACA) or Certified (ACCA) accountant.

We have a flexible approach to academic entry requirements, depending on which area of the business you are interested in. We’ll consider your academic achievements, but your strengths, motivations and connection with us and our values are more important. We’re looking for people with a broad range of interests and experiences.

Fast Track

We also offer a fast track qualification route for school leavers who have completed an AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) training course.

You can then apply to transfer to the Chartered (ACA) or Certified (ACCA) training programme.

This fast track training scheme allows you to become a fully qualified accountant in under six years from leaving school, gaining on-the-job experience and being paid while you do it.

The next stage will be attendance to one of our assessment days, this will include a lunch with some of our Managers which will give you the chance to ask questions and enable you the opportunity to get to know us better.

Internships

If you want to learn more about a career in accountancy we have intern opportunities during the summer at some of our offices. Spend between six and eight weeks with us and you'll get a real insight into life as a trainee accountant.

Interns work alongside our accounting, audit and other specialist teams to get valuable work experience. You'll have the opportunity to see every day working life within the profession, and more specifically how we do things at MHA Larking Gowen. 

Ideally, you'll be on expecting at least a 2:1 in your chosen Degree.

Graduates

Every year we have an intake of graduates on ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) training contracts. Your initial period of study and work experience will give you a strong background in essential areas of accountancy. You'll get hands-on experience and be paid while you learn. In addition, we'll give you paid study leave and flexible working until you've completed your training.

Once you qualify you'll have the opportunity to take up exciting challenges as you grow your career within the business.
