When we were originally founded over 125 years ago, our ambition was to build better homes and communities.

That ambition is as relevant today as it was in 1897 and while building beautiful, sustainable homes is still very much a part of our business, we have grown into a fully-fledged construction, residential development and property services company.

Despite our size we still place communities and people at the heart of everything we do.

Now in our fourth generation of family ownership, we are committed to the long-term future of the built environment. The Wates Family is focused on the continued sustainability of the company and to handing over to the next generation an even stronger, more sustainable business.

We want to lead the way in making this happen. We have a proud legacy for quality, safety and social value. So, we’re setting ourselves a new purpose to guide everything we do. By making sure every decision ladders up to this purpose, we can take our business into the future and have an even greater positive impact in the world.

In 2024, our 127th year of being in business, we are launching a new purpose and strategy for the Wates Group.

Our new purpose, ‘reimagining places for people to thrive’ will help us adapt and transform to tackle the seismic challenges that we face – as a company, an industry and as society. We have always looked to be at the forefront of positive change within our industry – and that is an approach we strengthen today.”
