About

23rd September 2019

We are currently running our last Level 2 College Course in the Skills Deal from the New Anglia LEP.  Over the year we have trained 60 participants and given 7 candidates a taster week in the Global Wind Offshore (GWO) Certificates.  Also 8 students have commenced Apprenticeships in the Offshore Wind Industry.

Meet our new Cohort that are just about to complete their first week of their 12 week course:

Previous candidates have successfully obtained their GWO Certificates enabling them to go offshore and work on the wind farms.  The GWO Certificates obtained are:

Working at Height, First Aid at Height, Sea Survival, Confined Spaces, Manual Handling, Fire Awareness, Slinger Banksman, CCNSG Passport, BTT.

From the 50 candidates that have already successfully completed, 27 have gained employment with local companies or taken work abroad – 54%.  The industry is experiencing a current lull in employment but it will pick up again soon as East Anglia One off of Lowestoft is now ready and East Anglia Two and Three have the go ahead.

Here are Cohort 4 all ready for the mock interview day with employers who attend the Offshore Wind Skills Centre at East Coast College to meet with the candidates.  They have only recently completed their Level 2 College Course and to date 3 candidates have secured employment in the Wind Turbine Industry.

Here was some of Cohort 2 completing their Working at Heights GWO training:  All candidates were offered and/or secured employment in the Offshore Wind Industry following the Course.

We have also run 3 Transition Courses during the year.  This is a 4 week course for students who have already obtained a Level 2 Engineering qualification.  From the 28 candidates 17 have obtained employment in the Offshore Wind Industry – 61%.
