Jackson Civil Engineering alongside workers from supply chain partners Toppesfield, Ovenden, Lynch, ATM, East Anglia Road Markings and sign manufacturer Ltd, volunteered their time and resources to give the play area in Leiston, Suffolk a much-needed makeover.
It was officially opened earlier this week by Cllr Nicky Corbett, Mayor of Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council, who own the track and has given its backing to the project.
All the companies are involved in building infrastructure for the nearby Sizewell C project and have donated people and materials for this BMX track project as part of their commitment to improve the communities where they work.
Jackson managed the project, while Toppesfield provided a new, hard-wearing asphalt surface for the track. Earthmoving specialist Ovenden carried out the landscaping side of the operation while Lynch provided the use of an excavator. ATM were also on hand to donate and install some fencing around the track. East Anglia Road Markings added the finishing touches with some hazard marking and directional arrows. Finally, Ltd assisted with new signage.
The restored track has been seeded and should grow grass when it rains. It has been completed in time for youngsters to enjoy it during the summer holidays, providing an opportunity for young people in the town to get out, have fun and exercise.
Caroline Rinder, Responsible Finance Officer and Assets Officer at Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council said: “This project is a fantastic example of organisations working together to create something positive for young people, giving them a safe and enjoyable space to be active, have fun and make the most of the summer.”
