About Green Futures in Construction

Construction is a massive industry in our region and has a huge responsibility to aid sustainability. Sustainable construction means building with renewable and recyclable materials as well as reducing waste and energy consumption where possible.

According to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), in order to achieve our goal of net zero, it is estimated that we will need to create 350,000 new job positions.

Around 40% of UK carbon emissions in 2022 were linked to the built environment. Green skills including green-retrofitting, waste management, energy modelling & analysis and a knowledge of low-carbon / environmentally friendly materials are becoming increasingly important and desirable for those considering careers in construction.

Did You Know?
New homes built from 2025 will have to comply with the Future Homes Standard (FHS) and produce 75-80% less carbon emissions than homes built under the previous Building Regulations.
