About us

Ace Anglia is a people-lead advocacy organisation working with people with learning disabilities and autistic people across Suffolk. People-lead means that  organisational and strategic decisions are made jointly by a board of Trustees & an Advisory Group and we are a registered charity & company limited by guarantee.

Our advocates support people to have a powerful and effective voice. The aim is to ensure that people remain as involved and, as central as possible, in all decisions that affect their life. Advocacy is about helping people to take control of their lives by empowering people to express their views, wishes and choices.

Our vision is for:

A world where everyone has their voice heard so that people live good lives as part of their community with the right support, at the right time from the right people”

We focus on the following areas of work:

Peer Educators

The Peer Educator Network is a supported employment scheme for adults who have a learning disability and/or autism.  Peer educators are people with lived-experience of a learning disability, employed to support others with similar challenges. This can be advising them about health and wellbeing tips and services, or for example, encouraging and helping them register for annual health checks or vaccines.

These paid roles help people to understand their rights and choices, leveraging the invaluable experience of the peer educator themselves.

Projects include:

  • Annual Health Check Workshops
  • Quality checkers GP surgeries
  • Training
  • Accessible information checking
  • Filming & Interviewing
  • Sexual health workshops
  • Breast screening
  • Healthy Hearts Together
  • Fairer access to healthy leisure activities
  • Physical health and wellbeing

Work with us

We pride ourselves on being a Disability-Confident employer with an in-depth understanding of reasonable adjustments and accessibility. Our aim is to employ people for their skills, not just qualifications. For the peer educator network, we use unconventional recruitment methods, which allow people to express who they are in the medium that suits them. We also offer extensive support to our employees, including the opportunity to gain qualifications while fulfilling the role, whether delivering one-to-one advocacy, group advocacy, health project work, Oliver McGowan training, or facilitating workshops and events.
