Graduates and Apprentices

We recognise the lack of younger Engineers and Technicians currently in the Offshore Engineering industry and therefore look to develop and encourage young engineering talent through our annual Graduate Training Programme and our Technician Apprentice Programme.

Both are two year schemes, focused on growing and developing you within our industry and environment. The applications for the 2019 scheme has now closed to applications and the 2020 Graduate Training Programme will open in November 2019.  If you would like to  find out more details on the schemes then please contact us.

The SPE Aberdeen Offshore Achievement Awards (OAA) have recently awarded us the 'Oustanding Skills Development' Award, this is a great achievement for Aquaterra Energy and is a great demonstration of some of our core values revolving around the development and training of young engineers.

Case Studies

Teddy Mattocks : A Warehouse Technician who joined us via our apprenticeship scheme.

"I successfully applied for an apprenticeship at Aquaterra Energy after completing my Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Operations and Maintenance at Lowestoft College. My interest in the company was sparked following a presentation that was given at the college by the Operations Manager, which gave me the opportunity to speak to the Aquaterra apprentices. I joined the company in 2014, and during my first year, I completed a Level 2 NVQ in Engineering Maintenance. The second year I completed a Level 3 work-based NVQ in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering. Aquaterra Energy also approved my further study to obtain a Foundation Degree in Operations Engineering. Alongside my studies, I am a workshop technician at Aquaterra’s warehouse unit in Ellough, Beccles, where we service and maintain offshore equipment. Aquaterra facilitated my offshore survival training and I have had the opportunity for trips in the UK & Norwegian sectors of the North Sea as well as Egypt. Last year Aquaterra nominated me for the EEEGR Trade Apprentice of the year award. With their support, I went to Dunston Hall for the finals and made a presentation to a large audience and judges form the energy industry. I was proud and delighted to win. After completing my foundation degree, I hope to become a full-time offshore service technician. Aquaterra is an excellent employer. I enjoy the social and sporting activities and feel valued and rewarded in my work. I am looking forward to gaining more experience and continuing my journey."

Annie Constable-Berry : An established Riser Analyst, who joined us via our graduate scheme.

"During my final year at University I applied for a work experience placement at Aquaterra Energy. Knowing it was an engineering company, I wasn’t sure if they would have a role for a physics graduate, but I was offered a two week placement in the Riser Analysis department during the Christmas holidays, and then a second one over Easter. This led to me being offered a place as a Graduate Analyst once I had completed my degree. I have been an established Riser Analyst within Aquaterra Energy for over three years now, following the completion of the scheme. I find the work both interesting and challenging and I am learning all the time. At Aquaterra Energy you’re given the opportunity to work on projects for some of the biggest companies in the oil and gas industry across the world; I really value being given these responsibilities and feeling that my contribution is supporting the business reach its goals and delivering engineering excellence. The culture at Aquaterra is fast-paced and challenging, but everyone is friendly and approachable and we like to help each other out. You feel like part of a team, even when working on a project alone. I’m also part of the charity and social committee and there is always something fun going on that you can get involved with if you want to."
