FitzRoy is a national charity that transforms lives by supporting people with learning disabilities to do the things that make a real difference to their everyday lives; ensuring they have choice, independence, and a voice. Whether as a fundraiser, staff member or volunteer – you too can make a difference and help us transform lives for people with disabilities.
The FitzRoy family consists of more than 800 staff, supporting more than 600 people across 15 counties − all started by the vision of two parents determined to change things.
We're proud of what we've achieved
With more than 50 years' experience, we’ve become experts in our field. Along the way, we have been recognised for our professionalism, achievements, and commitment to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities.
Our mission and vision
FitzRoy transforms lives every day, supporting people with learning disabilities to do the simple things that make a real difference to their everyday life.
Our vision, mission and values guide us each step of the way, and are as important now as when the charity first began. Our vision is a society where people are treated as equals, regardless of their disability.
Our mission is to transform lives by supporting people with learning disabilities to lead the lives they choose.
Involving the people we support
We believe that the best people to help us improve our services are the people who use them. The people we support take part in regional forums and help us to recruit the best people by taking part in staff interviews. Our goal is to give those we support a collective voice in their care and the ability to influence the thinking and focus of the organisation. Read on to find out how we do this.
FitzRoy volunteers make an enormous difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities. Their time, skills and enthusiasm bring so much to the people we support and really do change lives for the better. Becoming a volunteer brings huge personal rewards!
How we support you
FitzRoy’s volunteer scheme makes sure that people are well-matched to the volunteer roles they choose, and are given plenty of support right from the very beginning. We will give you a good induction and plenty of support to make sure that you are comfortable with your role. We will also spend time helping you to understand how our values – We See the Person, We are Brave, We are Creative – shape the way we work.

What our volunteers say
"The thing that captured the spirit of Hidden Gardens best of all was the wonderful garden created by the volunteer gardener at Donec Mews for the pleasure of its residents. That felt like a very special place and so were the people working there."
- Des Byrne
"To anyone who is thinking about volunteering with people with learning disabilities, I’d say just do it! You learn a lot about yourself and other people, and it’s lots of fun."
- Heather, Volunteer at a Day and Community Service
