OPITO offers work experience programmes to students which provide a unique opportunity to visit and engage with a host of companies and organisations within the oil and gas sector. Interactive activities give young people a valuable insight into the industry, with previous events including visits to offshore survival training and heliports, where offshore workers travel to work from. These programmes give young people the chance to explore the range of career opportunities within the oil and gas industry, it's not all about hardhats and boiler suits - there are 375,000 people employed in oil and gas across the UK, and only 6% work offshore.
Being an apprentice gives you the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification combined with practical training with some of the most innovative oil and gas companies.
The Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Programme (OGTAP) formally known as the UK Upstream Oil and Gas Industry Technician Training (UOGITT) Scheme is recognised as one of the most successful apprenticeship schemes of its kind.
The programme is offered in four key disciplines:

- Mechanical Maintenance
- Process Operations
- Instrumentation and Control Maintenance
