Young people gathered in St Mary’s Church porch because they had nowhere else to go. Instead of asking them to move on, they were offered somewhere safe they could regularly meet and socialise and so the Porch Project was born.
The Porch Project aims to support young people’s: physical, mental, social, and educational well-being. We don’t work in isolation, our youth workers work closely with a range of partner organisations and agencies to provide joined up and integrated support if and when young people need it.
The project currently has over 750 young people in Hadleigh, Cornard and the surrounding areas through its social activities, learning and support programmes, school visits and outreach work.
Are you aged between 11 and 19 and live in Hadleigh, cornard or surrounding areas? If so come and join the Porch Project, check out our Facebook Pages and Twitter for the latest updates on whats going on and how you can get involved.
Volunteering with us is a great way to get involved with your community and can give valuable skills and experience for future careers.
It would not be possible to run such a large youth engagement project without our volunteers. We welcome people of any age from a wide range of backgrounds and with different interests. This ensures our young people have access to a diverse range of positive role models. Different generations coming together in a supportive environment helps develop a more cohesive local community.
Our volunteers provide our Youthworker's with a way of running a wider range of activities. The project provides volunteers with a way to make a positive difference to the lives of young people from the local area. Volunteering can also provide volunteers with new skills and new friends.
