Porch Project

Hadleigh/Sudbury, IP75DT

About us

Young people gathered in St Mary’s Church porch because they had nowhere else to go. Instead of asking them to move on, they were invited into the church and offered somewhere safe they could regularly meet and socialise and so the Porch Project was born.

The Porch Project aims to support young people’s: physical, mental, social, spiritual and educational well-being. We don’t work in isolation, our youth workers and mentors work closely with a range of partner organisations and agencies to provide joined up and integrated support if and when young people need it.

The project currently engages with over 450 young people in Hadleigh and the surrounding areas through its social activities, learning and support programmes, school visits and street work.

Join us

Are you aged between 11 and 20 and live in Hadleigh or surrounding areas? If so come and join the Porch Project at St Mary’s Church.

You need to register here to join the Porch Project and you will need your parents’ permission if you are still at school.

Once you have registered, we will contact you and arrange for you to come along and meet the team. All the information you provide will be held securely by the Project’s administrator and will only be available to group leaders.

Get involved

Volunteering with us is a great way to get involved with your community and can give valuable skills and experience for future careers.

It would not be possible to run such a large youth engagement project without our volunteers. We welcome people of any age from a wide range of backgrounds and with different interests. This ensures our young people have access to a diverse range of positive role models. Different generations coming together in a supportive environment helps develop a more cohesive local community.

Our volunteers provide our paid staff with a way of running a wider range of activities. The project provides volunteers with a way to make a positive difference to the lives of young people from the local area. Volunteering can also provide volunteers with new skills and new friends.
