Runwood has 65 residential care homes across England and Northern Ireland as well as a number of Day Care Centres. In terms of the Norfolk and Suffolk area, this includes care services at: Aylsham, Norwich, Wymondham, Ipswich, Colchester, Halstead and beyond.
There are 4,000 residents in the homes and our employee team is of an equal number. The size of our team is an indication of the extent and quality of care that we are committed to. 75% - 80% of our residents live with a level of dementia.
At Runwood Homes we take seriously our commitment to providing care with dignity. It is a very high priority for us. All staff are trained to understand how to do so, and they are monitored by their leaders, who will expect the highest standards of respect, privacy and individual choice. We hear many staff saying that their aim is to treat people living in our homes as they would expect their mum and dad to be treated.
Dementia requires a special kind of care and to ensure that there is ‘person centred’ care throughout all homes we have created a special Dementia Care Services Team. This is an in-house visiting team of experienced experts in dementia care who continually and systematically monitor all homes, advising and ensuring highest standards are maintained.
Training has to be the foundation of employment with Runwood Homes for those wishing to work in care. Good training is essential for the success of our business and that of our employees. Our aim is to ensure that our people have job satisfaction and the opportunity to develop skills that will enable career advancement.
A comprehensive training programme is run by Training Manager, Mark Clarke and his team of five instructors. Induction and commencement begins with basic e.learning courses. We can assist you in achieving the CQC’s 15 point Care Certificate which is a mandatory e.learning qualification. Runwood includes this essential requirement within its own initial e.learning course for new employee carers and for those starting in care for the first time.
Development which will enable you to ‘move up the ladder’ at Runwood is encouraged. We will give you all the help you need. The advanced e.learning and internal management courses can equip you for promotion. Evidence of this is to be seen at all levels throughout the group. Carers have become Care Team Managers, Home Managers, Regional Care Directors and even Main Board Directors. Currently our Director of Human Resources and our Director of Marketing both started life with Runwood Homes as carers.
Continued Support after training is in place to ensure that the good practice of care is monitored and maintained. About 70% of residents are living with dementia and require close personal attention. We refer to this as ‘person centred’ care. A Dementia Services Team comprising seven experts in dementia care have been allocated homes in their regions to attend regularly to monitor the performance of the homes and all levels of employee carers. Assistance and expert advice is offered to ensure that Runwood Homes maintains the highest standards of care for all of our residents.
