NMS is a countywide service operating ten museum sites, each of which has a unique and strong identity. Sites include Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery, Gressenhall Farm & Workhouse and Time & Tide Museum in Great Yarmouth https://www.museums.norfolk.gov.uk/

NMS delivers temporary exhibitions across a number of sites and also undertakes regular improvements to its permanent galleries, including through major externally funded development projects. The work of the in-house Design & Technical (D&T) team is supplemented by freelance 2D and 3D designers and specialist technicians where required.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Norfolk Museums Services’ Design and Technical team. Working with the Lead Technician you will help to install high quality, accessible and engaging temporary and permanent exhibitions and related interpretation across Norwich Museums.

You will learn practical and woodworking skills and receive training on workshop equipment and power and hand tools.

You will help with the day-to-day upkeep of existing displays and support the Design and Technical team with various display-related tasks and receive training on museum best-practice.

You will also have an awareness of Health and Safety requirements and have a willingness to learn procedures and policies.

This is a full-time position with provision to attend the Level 3 Museums and Galleries Technician Apprenticeship training provided, including revision and assessments. It is anticipated this apprenticeship will take 18 - 21 months to complete.

This apprenticeship will suit you if you are someone who enjoys using practical skills, is interested in the culture and the heritage sector, and wants to obtain a broad range of skills and knowledge. You will need to be flexible, well organised, have a “can do” attitude, and interested in the apprenticeship course: Museum & Galleries Technician, Level 3.
