About Green Futures in Offshore Wind, Solar and Hydrogen

Burning fossil fuels for electricity generation is a huge contributor to greenhouse gases emissions, so renewable energy sources which are low-to-zero carbon are vital in the race to tackle climate change. Our region boasts a rapidly expanding clean, green and renewable energy sector, focusing on hydrogen, solar and wind.

Did you know we’re trialling hydrogen-powered busses or that half of the UK’s offshore wind turbines are here, off the East of England? You’re in the right place if you want a career at the forefront of the UKs green energy revolution. "

Employment

We need more and more people skilled in clean and renewable energy - these industries are rapidly expanding as we reduce our dependency on fossil fuels.

Large scale energy projects here in the East of England are creating an increased demand for professionals with clean and renewable energy technical skillsets, planning, project management and engineering - for both the construction phase and beyond to day-to-day operations and ongoing maintenance.

STEM skills and qualifications are particularly useful for people wanting to work directly with renewable energy technologies, projects and infrastructure.  Careers can include roles for Sustainability Consultants, Windfarm Project Managers, Solar Planning Officers, Wind Turbine Technicians, Solar Design Engineers and Fuel Cell Research and Development.  There are also potentially many opportunities for jobs that support the sector, such as logistics, transport and facilities maintenance positions.

Having a basic understanding of major clean and green projects in the area will help you seek out job opportunities and identify the skills you might need to take advantage of them.
