Macmillan Cancer Support, 89 Albert Embankment, London, SE17UQ

About us

We give people with cancer everything we’ve got. We offer emotional, physical and financial support from the moment you’re diagnosed.

We are millions of supporters, professionals, volunteers and campaigners. Together we make sure everyone is treated like a person – not just a patient – and get the support they need to live life as fully as you can.

Volunteer with us

With 3 million people in the UK now living with cancer, Macmillan's role has never been more crucial. The support provided by Macmillan volunteers is integral to helping us to be there for people with cancer, in their community, from the moment of diagnosis and for however long they need us.

The coronavirus pandemic is still impacting the types of volunteering we can offer at Macmillan, as we seek to protect our volunteers and people living with cancer. Macmillan volunteers are continuing to have a crucial impact, by directly supporting people with cancer, powering our fundraising and supporting our backend operations. So, whilst you may see a reduced level of roles available at the moment, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and have a real impact. If you don't find something suitable today, please check back another time.

Whether it's minutes or months, hours or days, the time you give really does matter. Although the majority of our volunteering roles require our applicants to be over 18, there are numerous ways for everyone to help, such as fundraising events that local groups and schools often take part in.

As a Macmillan volunteer, you will:

  • Make a meaningful difference to people affected by cancer in your community
  • build on your existing and learn new skills
  • receive our Volunteer Handbook, including any necessary training for your role and access to ongoing development
  • have the opportunity to get involved in shaping and improving the volunteer experience at Macmillan
  • connect with like-minded volunteers and become part of the Macmillan team
  • have a great experience whilst doing so.

Search for a volunteering opportunity to suit you. If you need more information, contact us by emailing or calling 0300 1000 200.

Want to know what you’re really capable of? Intern with Macmillan and you’ll get the chance to really shine, with proper training and hands-on experience in one of the UK’s biggest charities. You’ll be part of an inspiring team, with the chance to network with people across Macmillan. Though we can’t guarantee jobs, we will help you develop new skills and discover your strengths, so you can get your career off to a great start.

Our Internships are:

  • Designed to nurture talent
Interning with us doesn’t automatically lead to a job, however we will help you apply for positions with us when they arise, including vacancies that are only advertised internally.
  • Open to all
We don't care where you've been - just where you're going. Whether you’re a student, graduate or simply looking to change your career or move into the charity sector, our internship scheme is open to you.
  • Flexible
We appreciate that it can be difficult to find time to intern. So, although our 12-week scheme is 9am to 5pm, three days a week, we’re happy to work around this if we can.
  • Skill-focused
We promise to provide you with:

A full induction to help you understand more about your role and how it fits into the wider organisation.
A development plan to enable you to gain the skills necessary to make the next step.
A buddy and mentoring scheme to give you the support you need.
Project work to give you a sense of ownership over the work you produce.
A chance to work on a team fundraising project.
Access to apply for internal-only vacancies with coaching from the recruitment team on making a successful application.
